Jacob Odell began playing guitar at the age of 11. His father taught him Rock & Roll songs and he was able to perform them at jam sessions and back yard parties. By the time he was 18 years old he was playing in Blues, Funk, Rock, and Worldbeat groups all over the San Luis Obispo, CA area. His love of Blues lead him to begin listening to, and studying Jazz.
In 1997 Jacob attended Cabrillo College in Aptos, CA. There, he studied Jazz performance and arranging with notable Jazz educator Ray Brown. He then received a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. While at Berklee he continued his musical education, studying guitar performance, advanced harmony, and arranging. He trained under the tutelage of such Berklee professors as: Ed Tomassi; Dave Santoro; Richie Hart; Bret Willmott; Jon Damian; John Thomas; Barry Nettles; and Stephen Rochinski. In 2001 he received his Bachelors Degree in Music from Berklee College.
Jacob currently resides on the Central Coast area of California. He plays regularly with such acts as: Functus; the Zongo Allstars; Mark Adams (Rancho Deluxe/ One Time Spaceman); Mike Raynor Group; Sunny Wright Group; and the Dylan Johnson Quartet. Along the way he has performed with artists and groups such as: Red Holloway; Joe LaBarbera; Bird Taylor; Marco Benevento; Mozaic; Luis Conte; Todd Johnson; as well as many others.
